Write Act Repertory has been in Los Angeles for 11 years as an AEA waiver theatre. We strive to bring quality productions to the stage and keep theatre alive, through our dedication and specialization developing new live theatrical works. Since we are a small company of volunteer writers, actors, designers, and directors working under AEA’s 99-seat plan, we have limited funding for our performers and crew. Using the funds we have for the theatre as a vital resource for new playwrights, and a highly regarded venue for working actors, directors, and designers.
Due to the style of this play and its impact on our community as fellow artists and humanitarians, with your help we can bring Judi Ann Mason's vision to fruition and successfully mount our show to benefit two Katrina Charities. We have a Gala Benefit + Art Auction on Friday and Saturday night, August 28th and 29th, 2009 with the art auction occurring prior to and following each performance. 100% of the art auction monies raised from the Gala will go to support the people of Katrina through two local charities - The Make It Right Foundation, and Sweet Home New Orleans . In addition, we plan to give a percentage of the box office profits from the seven week production back to the community in New Orleans to help rebuild and service its residents’ recovery from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
We are currently seeking sponsorship for this production, which will allow us to make all of this possible. This play was written with the intent of its original production occurring earlier. With this in mind, the following data pertained:
· 3,200 People Still Missing after Katrina, 1/19/06 (CNN)
· Survivors of Katrina turning to suicide, 12/28/05 (Herald Tribune)
· Bosnia lab to help identify the unknown dead of Hurricane Katrina, 12/30/05
(BBC News)
· Katrina spent all of August 28 at Category 5 status despite some weakening,
but by the early morning of August 29 (Day 7) had declined to a very powerful
Category 4 storm. 9/16/05 (Storms411)
· The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Thursday
listed Hurricane Katrina as "the most destructive hurricane to ever strike the U.S. "
9/16/05 (Storms411)
